#FF Fertility Friday

I had been told on the Thursday that going through Chemotherapy will most definitely mean I would lose my fertility, and there was no time to harvest my eggs.

At 28 years old this was a hard one to hear, and so far only my second real emotional breakdown. Tough when a life decision like that is whipped from under your feet, but again, this was something that was out of my control and getting better is the key battle here, and so we picked ourselves up and ploughed on...

On Friday my wonderful Macmillan nurse delivered some hopeful news. The doctors told me she had been working non-stop since Thursday to try and get me on an experimental fertility protocol at Oxford Hospital for early the following week. The surgery is classed as experimental but has been running for many years, with some positive success might I add! The procedure involves removing one of my ovaries, taking cell strips from it, putting them in Cryotherapy and then somehow in the future, should I want to, they facilitate the cells production of eggs again. They would implant them back where they should be, and as if by magic I should have the potential to fall pregnant naturally - is your mind blown?!! Mine was!

I was so lost for words and overwhelmed by the effort the staff went to on my behalf to make this a possibility for me. My Macmillan nurse was genuinely over the moon that all her hard work had come off, and told me in 5 years I was to bring a baby back to show her, which made me tearful! She's a good egg ;) - pun intended.

"Donna, thank you, you rock!"
