Anywho, it got me thinking about materialistic things and how your perspective on ‘needs and wants’ can be changed in an instant. Now I love giving presents, and who doesn’t like receiving them, I have been completely spoilt in recent weeks, thanks again guys. I pride myself on finding thoughtful gifts for each person, but I find it hard to contain the surprise. My mum always tells me off at Christmas, as I always ask her if she wants to know what I’ve got her. I just can’t wait until the 25th of December, it’s like torture!! She of course resists, ever year, well done Lyn!!
Anyway, I digress, I was thinking about what I would want this Christmas and it came down to one thing; to be at home for our first Christmas in the new house!! Nothing more. Though materialistic things are beautiful and come in handy (like my new MacBook Air ?), we really don’t need them, and all we really need is to be happy, healthy, and surrounded by family and friends (bit of a Tiny Tim moment there – sorry)!! Yesterday Donna said that they do their best to send people home for Christmas. If all goes to plan, I will have finished my induction phase the week before Christmas, and so here’s hoping I’ll be allowed to go home, cross your fingers for me.
I also wanted to share with you what I did with my Black Friday, as today has been a good day so far!! I woke up at 6:30 am, when my bloods were taken, after 9 solid hours sleep (I’m definitely getting better at that). I had my breakfast and knocked back 16 pills and 2 dissolvable tablets, a strong concoction before 8:30 am.
I then showered, and got in my reclining chair and read a few more chapters of The Shining, very good so far. Having been put back on steroids, after my 3 day holiday from them, I started to feel peckish around 10 am and so I decided to stroll downstairs to the Costa Coffee. I feel like a rebel when I leave the room, but it also feels amazing to be up walking about like a normal person. I am very conscious of everyone around me, and the potential germs they may be carrying, and so I kept my face in my scarf pretty much the whole time. I ordered two, yes TWO bacon rolls from Costa and decided to sit in and devour them whilst keeping up with current events. Please don’t judge my eating habits, it’s the drugs, I promise ?!
After my Costa I popped to the hospital shop, no Black Friday queues or deals going on there, but nice to look around. I headed back to my room and read some more, whilst watching the M27 go by (one for you Felicity Dickson). The specialist Chemotherapy nurse came and administered a drip and anti-sickness drugs before they started my next batch of Chemo. Whilst I had that, I was fortunate enough to have a hand and foot massage from a lovely Macmillan volunteer from the cancer support unit. Bliss! I also had fish and chips for lunch – winner! Later on I have a lady coming from the wig specialists… No idea what to expect, I thought I’d leave this story for another day as think it may be a funny one!!
I was a little apprehensive about today, with having the next lot of Chemotherapy, but it has been a very relaxed day (so far), and I’ve felt very well in myself. A friend, who has been through this experience gave me some good advice last week, he told me to celebrate and hold onto good news and good days, as they will mean a lot! So here I am smiling and celebrating a good day! #Thumbsup
Better click post quickly to keep the positive vibes, as they have just taken my reclining chair for someone who needs it more than me (sob), and brought in my next bag of Chemo… I may not be so cheerful later!
Pop your email address below and I’ll (or my super automated robot) will email you when I’ve posted a new blog.
